Frequently Asked Questions*
It’s true, these aren’t frequently asked because we are not yet open! We will open our doors in July 2026. Here are some Q’s we anticipate being F.
-
The ceramics studio at R.A.C.K. includes:
Six Shinto throwing wheels
Two electric Skutt Kilns (fired up to cone 6)
Wire shelving for members’ pieces
A wedging table
A hand building table
A glaze corner with 5-10 glaze options
-
Yep!
We can fire greenware or glazed bisque pieces made elsewhere, as long as you have proof of purchase to show that your clay body and glaze are Cone 6 compatible.
Rates are $3 per piece under 9”, $5 per piece 9-14”, and $10 for pieces bigger than 14”.
If you have a large load to fire, please contact our staff to work out a discount package and fire all your stuff at once.
-
RACK is a Cone 6 studio. Sorry, we cannot fire higher than that.
-
Nope!
Due to liability and safety reasons, members are not permitted to operate, load, or unload kilns. We will do our best to take care of every piece, but as with any shared studio space, you are automatically accepting the risk that your work may be damaged due to unavoidable accidents
-
Yes, please! To help us keep this shared space running smoothly and joyously, we ask all members to have taken a class or do an orientation with a staff member.
To do an orientation without taking a class, email us with the subject line: “Orientation” and a bit about your ceramics background: “I’ve never done this before!” or “I have done a lot of pottery, but want to know your site-specific flow.” We will let you know if we have space for new members and/or if we recommend a class rather than a brief orientation. Then we will schedule a time!
Orientation is a glorified tour of the studio and our studio-specific policies around clean up, glazing, courtesy in the space, etc.
-
Minimum age for membership is 14 years old. Students younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Like all members, those aged 14-18 must pass an orientation with a staff member.
-
Monthly membership is $115. This includes open studio time during business hours. This includes use of the wheels, hand building table, small tools, glazes, and firing.
Clay is additional $30 per 25lb brick.
If cost is an issue, please talk to our staff. We may have slots available for work trade for those in need, but these are limited due to our own financial responsibilities as a studio.
